Gary has been teaching professionally since 2004, and has guided the study of hundreds of students both privately and for his local music service.  His students have a 100% pass rate in Rockschool and Trinity Guildhall electric and classical guitar exams, with the majority achieving distinction-level marks.

His teaching style is practical, with a view to achieving healthy technique and investing in skills which will equip students to enjoy the versatility of the guitar in their favoured music genres.  These skills include rhythm reading and counting, transcription, and critical thinking.  He places an emphasis on musical decision making, whereby students are encouraged to eevelop their own opinions on how to manipulate musical elements and then given the opportunity to explore alternatives – as long was they are made for musical reasons.

Gary has been fortunate to study under some of the UK’s foremost guitar educators including Shaun Baxter, Lee Hodgson, Clive Carroll, Martin Taylor and John Cadman to name a few, and he draws from these experiences, as well as his own research to enrich his lessons for his students.

Many of Gary’s lessons keep an eye on how to apply tuition material to live performance contexts with a view to priming students for these opportunities as and when they arise.  Since Gary is a seasoned performer, he is also perfectly placed to recommend ways of getting into, and improving live performance disciplines.

He is fully CRB/DBS checked with up-to-date child protection training, and teaches privately at home in Aylesbury, as well as in selected local schools.
